About Kay

Kay Dalton, from Clearwater, Florida, began taking adult oil classes at the age of 12 studying under Paul Matranga at The Gulf Coast Art Center.  She earned a BFA in Studio Art/Painting from SMU in 1981, gaining the influence of  then  Faculty Guest Critic, Jerry Bywaters and Art Professors, Roger Winter and Larry Scholder.

Kay began an 8 year  business career working for St. Paul Hospital as a Media Artist/ Medical Illustrator, EDS as a Graphic Designer and the Metropolitan YMCA as the Public Relations Director.
Kay began painting again in 1990 and continues to paint in all mediums as well as producing clay and bronze sculptures in her North Dallas Studio for private commissions. Her work hangs in private homes as well as businesses throughout the country.

Kay has taught adult as well as teen and pre-teen painting classes periodically since 2002.  She has been a docent for the Meadows Museum, the Dallas Museum of Art and currently the Jesuit Dallas Museum. She donates to many art auctions that include Breast Cancer Awareness, Art for Darfur and the St. Phillips Community Center where she taught a senior painting class. As a past teacher/volunteer for Big Thought, Today Marks the Beginning and current board member for Artreach, Inc., an organization dedicated to bringing art to the disadvantaged Dallas community, she stays aware of the abundance of cultural opportunities that our city has to offer and works to bring that into the lives of those in need.

“I can’t say I  have a favorite color nor do I prefer a traditional style more than contemporary. There is such unlimited beauty in the whole spectrum of creation that can be expressed in so many ways. I want to reflect that beauty so that when viewed it will  bring about a reaction for greater good. The subject matters of my paintings and sculptures reflect what I’m thinking at the time I create.

“I seem to gravitate to clouds, trees, mountains and water because those images are often what moves  my  spirit. But I am drawn to the human element as well. My objective in creating a  piece is to transfer to others the emotions that I felt when I was compelled to choose the style and subject matter.

“When viewing a work of art one should be elevated to a higher level of consciousness. That is what I hope my art will do for others.”
